Education and Teaching<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Du\u0161ko Sekuli\u0107 was born in Zagreb in 1947. Du\u0161ko Sekuli\u0107 graduated in psychology, and a year later he completed a double major in sociology and psychology. He defended his doctorate in sociology seven years after completing his studies in sociology. He is currently a professor of sociology at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scientific Contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

His field of interest covers a wide range of sociological topics, including social structure, economic sociology, and identity. He has published several books and scientific articles in respected international journals, including the \"American Journal of Sociology\" and the \"American Sociological Review.\" His book \"Conflicts and Tolerance - on the social conditioning of nationalism and democracy\" (2004), written in co-authorship, explores the key aspects of nationalism and democracy in society. Also, his work \"Assimilation and Identity: A Study of Croatian Emigration in the USA and Canada\" (1995), which he wrote in collaboration with other authors, explores issues of identity and assimilation among Croatian emigrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his career, he has given invited lectures at numerous American universities and institutions in Europe, including the University of Oslo and the University of Lausanne. He was also extremely active in administrative roles, including head of the Faculty of Philosophy, president of the University of Zagreb, and director of the Center for European Studies at George Mason University and the Department of Sociology. Professor Sekuli\u0107 is also a member of the executive committee of Research Committee 10, International Sociological Association (ISA). He participated in many international projects, including the Consortium of Sociological Institutes of Yugoslavia. Professor Sekuli\u0107 is particularly prominent in economic sociology and one of the few Croatian sociologists who developed this discipline. During the eighties, he was one of the leading researchers of the social structure in the former Yugoslavia.
