At the Agora held on February 16, 2007, the Croatian Sociological Association with deep respect awarded the \"Rudi Supek\" Award posthumously to Professor Emeritus Sr\u0111an Vrcan. This award, which is given for exceptional achievements, successes, and contributions to the development of sociology, was given to Professor Vrcan in recognition of his incredible contribution to the field of sociology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recognition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor emeritus Sr\u0111an Vrcan was one of the founders of Croatian sociology and one of the most important authors in several special sociological disciplines. His contributions cover a wide range of fields, including the sociology of religion, youth, sport, politics, elections, and electoral systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Education and Teaching<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Vrcan began his career in 1961 as a lecturer in sociology at the Faculty of Law in Split and continued until he was elected a full professor of sociology in 1985 at the same faculty. Although he retired in 1990, his contribution remained indelible. Professor Vrcan was not only a long-time member of the Croatian Sociological Association and the Yugoslavian Association for Sociology, but also their president. He was also a three-time member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for the Sociology of Religion. In addition, he held positions such as editor-in-chief of \"Pogledi\" magazine, dean of the Faculty of Law in Split, and vice-chancellor of the University of Split. He was also head of the Center for Socioreligious Research in Split and co-director of the \"Future of Religion\" seminar in Dubrovnik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Scientific Contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Vrcan leaves an impressive collection with ten books (including five co-authored), 210 scientific articles, and many interviews, essays, and other texts in the press and other publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n International Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Vrcan was an extremely productive author who also published abroad.
