Laureate 2018 - Goran Batina

Goran Batina is responsible for the publication of dozens of sociological titles by international and domestic authors with his dedicated work and incredible dedication. He was the chief editor of the Sociological Library of the Croatian Sociological Association and the publishing house Jesenski i Turk.

With his research work, Batina contributed to the elucidation of the origin and institutionalization of sociology in Croatia at the beginning of the 20th century. While many sociologists were only familiar with the work of Ivo Pilar and Dinko Tomašić from the 1930s and 1940s, Batina discovered and gave new light to the forgotten texts of the first Croatian sociologists. His chronology and explanation of the social need for the institutionalization of sociology in Croatia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries provided an important insight into the history of Croatian social thought and the Croatian sociological tradition. The commitment to translating classic works of sociology into the Croatian language enabled a wide range of readers to access the fundamental texts of this field, opening the door to a rich and significant heritage of sociological thought.
