Education and Teaching
Prof. dr. sc. Inga Tomić-Koludrović began her academic career by graduating in comparative literature and sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb in 1977. She received her master's degree in the sociology of culture at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Ljubljana in 1992, and her doctorate in 1998 at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb, where she delved deeper into the topic of sociology of lifestyle through her research. Her academic career includes various institutions, starting with the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zadar from 1994 to 2013. After that, she moved to the Ivo Pilar Institute of Social Sciences - Regional Center Split, where she still works as a permanent scientific advisor.
Scientific Contributions
Tomić-Koludrović is the author of eight books and over fifty scientific articles, and her work is often based on solid theoretical frameworks applied to Croatian society. For her work, she was awarded the prestigious State Prize for Science for the book "Movement Towards Modernity: Women in Croatia in the Period of Mature Transition" in 2016.
Studying the sociology of lifestyle and the sociology of women in Croatia provided new insights into society and the changes that took place during the years of transition. Her theoretical perspective, focused on contemporary theories of modernization, combined with solid empirical research, created the foundations for a better understanding of society in change. As the head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Zadar, she facilitated the internationalization of the department's work and initiated international study programs in cooperation with other European universities.
International Awards
Professor has given invited lectures at prestigious international universities (MIT, Boston College, Karl-Franzens University in Graz, University of Bologna, and Academia Sinica in Taipei). Tomić-Koludrović actively participated in the development of civil society in Croatia, sharing her knowledge with organizations dealing with women's rights and culture.
