Education and Teaching
Academician Ivan Cifrić is a full-time professor with a permanent title at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zagreb. He graduated in sociology and philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zagreb. His career is marked by numerous exceptional achievements and significant contributions to sociology, social ecology, and bioethics.
Scientific Contributions
Academician Cifrić published as many as 14 authored books and edited several scientific collections. His greatest contribution to education lies in the fact that he introduced new subjects such as "Croatian Society", "Social Ecology", "Sociology of Education" and "Environmental Ethics". In addition, he organized and led the postgraduate scientific study "Social Ecology". Academician Cifrić also made a significant contribution to the field of bioethics. His work "Bioethics: Ethical Challenges of Science and Society" testifies to his expertise and deep understanding of ethical challenges in modern society. Academician Cifrić actively participated in the work of the Croatian Sociological Association, where he held the role of secretary and president.
International Awards
During 1984 and 1985, he was a scholarship holder of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung Foundation, which enabled him to develop international scientific contacts and collaborations. He taught at various universities throughout Croatia, as well as in Belgrade and Ljubljana. His expertise and lectures covered various topics including statistics, rural sociology, sociology of religion, and many others. Academician Cifrić is the winner of the "Grand Medal" of the Faculty of Philosophy (1991) and the "Annual State Prize for Science" (2000). For his exceptional contribution to sociology and the spread of knowledge about ecology and bioethics in Croatia, he was elected a regular member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in the Department of Social Sciences in 2010.
